The Police Panel
The Police panel is where select police staff can manage and search for potentially stolen goods. These users have the ability to add inventories from pawn shops to the database, and add stolen goods to the database as they come in.
Shown above, police staff are able to manage stolen goods, view the inventories of pawn shops and search through them to find matches.
Adding new stolen goods
As new stolen goods are reported, these can be entered into the database for easy matching. This is done by selecting the empty row at the bottom of the grid and entering in the following information:
- Serial Number
- A category (eg ipod, guitar, ring, etc). These should be kept broad, but consistent
- A brief description of the item.
Once this information is entered,
Uploading inventories
The police receive weekly inventory updates from the First Stop Swap Shop. These can be uploaded directly into the database easily from the "Upload file" tab.
To upload a file, select "Choose File" and browse to the inventory file received from the Pawn Shop. A confirmation will appear once a file is chosen. Select a pawn shop from the drop-down menu and click Upload. That's it!
The database will automatically pull information out of the inventory file and populate the database with the new inventory.
Searching
Searching for specific items is the primary purpose of PawnTrack. From the "Search Inventories" tab, a user can entire part of all of an item's serial number or description to view only those items in inventory that match the entered text.
